Terrific Terrifying Triathlon

Last Friday we had a Paihia School Tryathlon we swam down at the beach it was a 100 metre swim. I was a great day. But I think the down side was running back to school in our cold wet togs.  My favorite was the bike ride around the field and on the pump track. At the deck the juniors cheered us on and the prize at the end was a caught being good and a bar. Next year I think we need to have another one.

Super Surf Safety

On Wednesday we went down to the beach and three lifeguards called, Liam, Sam and Tobias taught us how to use a tube to save someone. We had 4 fun activities on how to save life we played a game called beach flags, beach divers and we also played a relay, running in the water high fiving a teacher aide called Bridgette and then running out of the water without falling over it was an awesome day. I hope we do it every year.

Beach Clean Up

Kia ora, my name is Lily and last week we had beach clean up. The juniors cleaned the closest part of the beach to school and the the year 5 - 8 took the far side of the beach. Freya, Ava, Astin, Tessa and I found 371 cigarette butts and and I found 5 sea weed covered fishing lines. Somebody even found the a rugby ball in the storm water drainage. It was really gross but fun at the very same time. I am glad that Paihia School gets to have a beach clean up day every year.

Fictional Character Cronical

Nisse

A mythical man
His bumpy beard
His old skin
His loving heart
His mystical magic
He lives in a cottage in the lost woods of Norway with wolves bears and foxes,
He is eating porridge as he grows old helping the animals and caring for your homes . . . if you give him porridge with butter, and as Jul (Christmas) comes closer he is make sure he looks after all the animals.

I was learning to write a descriptive piece of writing in a different way.

We wrote about any fictional character that we knew and wanted to. I wrote about the Norwegian Santa Claus. After we wrote the story we got to make the character on a google drawing and this week we are making the setting for our awesome magical characters. I might need to improve on my alliteration and metaphors.

Taste Tummy Rubbing Tangelos

 23/2/17

                                         Tangel🍊s

“Crack” as I peeled the delicious tangelo revealing the scrumptious segments. The smells reminded me of springs delightful wonders. One whiff of the smell and I was in love with what it's smells may bring to the flavors. Gently I placed it in my mouth and wow I wanted more and more it was amazing. Juicy orange tasting segments as tiny as they were, they were delicious I wish I was eating them forever. One by one I ate the segments and ripping their flesh.“SHHH” as the juice squirted out of the tangelo segment as my teeth squished it. I never thought I that a round orange ball would be that tasty. I love tangelos sooo much, “I glad I have a tangelo tree at home!"
******************THE END*********************

I was learning to write a descriptive piece of writing.
We wrote about a tangelo we got to smell, taste and feel it. I thought I was a great way to write a story. I worked on the similes and alliteration and onomatopoeia. But I need to work similes because I really don’t really know much about them. Other wise I think I did really well.

I Remember . . .

I Remember . . .

Lying on the warm rocks of Russell
As the ocean breathed in and out tickling my tiny toes.
Listening to my sister laughing as the sea birds pecked away at her lunch.
SQUACK!! The bird whaled as Teah chased them into the cloudy sky
Then comes Amy sprinting across the hot tar road.
Suddenly comes a splash of refreshing sea water as Amy jumps to the ocean.
Looking up to the shimmering sun as it warms me once again,
Thankful that the sun was shining that day.

That was my summer

I was learning to notice and use a structure of a piece of writing to write my own descriptive writing.
I had to start with what we were doing,
Something that was happening,
Something we did and why we did it
Then we figured out the rest of the structure of our stories.
I thought I did the beginning well by putting ‘lying on the warm rocks of Russell,’
It is my most descriptive piece of writing so far in all the years I have been at school.
